The last one of my Hyborean heroes is the fierce Red Sonja. This one is from Elladan and sculpted by Andy Peters, just like Conan himself. I love the pose and the sculpt, but of course you have to accept that it’s based on the Red Sonja comic books with corresponding proportions. Consequently I decided to go for a brighter skin and a strong red for her hair. I’m more satisfied with the hair this time, but as a matter of fact it’s not easy to highlight red, isn’t it? That’s what I like about painting so many completely different miniatures. You’re forced to use different techniques and to learn the characteristics and challanges of every single colour.
It was really fun painting a couple of barbarian typed miniatures. Now, I think, it’s time for something modern again.
On this occasion, a few words about the rather bad Red Sonja movie are due. I’ll have to take some time for that in the near future, because there are so many things to say about it. I just remembered: What about the long announced reboot of Robert Rodriguez with Rose McGowan as a redheaded warrior? Okay, a detailed blogpost about Red Sonja will follow, I promise.
