Coming home … to wargaming

It‘s time to finally start playing with all my wonderful toys again. Since I dropped my hobby many years ago I did not play any game. Two years ago I picked up the brushes again with the intention to only paint the minis, not to play any games. I was aware which games people were playing in the last years, but time was limited and I was happy just to be able to paint again. Since then I experienced an unbelievably nice, welcoming and supportive community with lots of fun and interesting chats on Facebook, Instagram, in forums and blogs. I really enjoy being part of this worldwide and also pretty local community, talking about painting techniques, looking at awesome miniatures others painted, showing your own work and being criticized or sharing even other interests with likeminded people. I dipped so deeply in this hobby again, that I felt I wanted the full experience again – including gaming.

I think I‘m aware of any better known tabletop system most people are playing at the moment. Basically I‘m interested in a lot of them, but we tabletop people know that it‘s good to try to limit yourself, right? (Please leave me that naivety – deep down I already know better…). To keep it simple I wanted to start with a system many people in my town already play (not WH40k/AoS!) and that would be playable with my collection. It didn’t take long to realize that Saga and 7TV would be the systems I’m interested in the most. 7TV by Crooked Dice is perfect for my collection (in fact a lot of the minis are from CD) and for my whole movieminis approach. Unfortunately I don’t know anybody who plays it. Although I‘m willing to get people into playing a certain system, I wanted to play something with a broad community for the beginning. That led me to Saga. I‘m really impressed with the reputation Saga gained over the last years and I like the options it gives you. Time to start my own Saga!

While we all are in Corona quarantine, I took the opportunity habe time to read and ordered the new german edition (2. english edition including the 2019 errata) with the Age of Magic expansion. Maybe I can have a couple of games with Conan and his fellows against the forces of Thulsa Doom? Stronghold Terrain delivered really fast and I‘m a bit excited to finally learn new rules again. Stay tuned!
